On what amount is the Amazon sales commission charged?
Amazon.com.tr charges the sales commission on the total amount the buyer pays: the product price, VAT and the shipping the buyer pays are included in this amount. VAT is added on top of the commission.
The formula in plain text: Commission = (Selling price + shipping paid by the buyer) × rate × 1.2. Net profit = Selling price ÷ (1 + VAT rate) − commission excl. VAT − shipping − product cost. Because the calculator uses only the selling price, if you charge the buyer a shipping fee, add it to the price box.
The amount credited to your account (payout) is different: commission and shipping are deducted including VAT, and a 1% e-commerce withholding tax is also withheld. Because withholding tax is offset against taxes, it is not counted as an expense; the calculator deducts it from the payout, not from the profit.
Example: how much is the Amazon profit on a yoga mat?
A yoga mat falls under Amazon's Sports category; the rate in this category is 10%.
If the same mat were sold for ₺900, the commission would be ₺90 (excl. VAT) and the net profit 750 − 90 − 60 − 300 = ₺300. You can see the effect of a price increase on profit in the price curve of the calculator.
In which Amazon categories does the rate vary with price?
On Amazon, rates range from 6% to 20% by category and are tiered by selling price in three categories. The table in the calculator contains 31 categories; the tier that matches the price you select is applied automatically.
| Category | Rate (+VAT) |
|---|---|
| Personal care and cosmetics | 9% up to 500 TL, 14% above |
| Food products | 9% up to 500 TL, 13% above |
| Jewellery | 20% up to 900 TL, 6% above |
| Sports | %10 |
| Pet products | %13,5 |
| Kitchenware and décor | %15 |
The rates were taken on 5 October 2026 from the sales commission list on Amazon.com.tr's official fees page. The Professional selling plan is defined as 99 TL + VAT per month; Amazon is currently not charging this fee to new or existing sellers.
How does shipping cost enter the calculation on Amazon?
You can ship using the Amazon Kolay Gönderi rate or your own carrier agreement. With Kolay Gönderi, the greater of desi and weight is charged; because the rate in the calculator is dated 21 March 2025, we recommend checking the current price in Seller Central.
Find the desi from the parcel size with the desi calculator. For the steps to open an account, see our Amazon seller account opening guide.
How does Amazon compare with your own e-commerce site?
To compare, look at the profit per order of the same product on the two channels. Amazon takes a share of every sale as a rate; on your own site, instead of commission there are payment deductions, site costs and ad spend.
Find your own site's unit profit with the profit margin calculator and compare it with the result here. If you want to use Amazon together with your own site, we explained the product and order flow on the Amazon integration page.
In tiered categories such as jewellery, comparison matters even more: a product under 900 TL pays a 20% rate, while the same product on your own site doesn't carry this deduction. When setting your price just below or above the threshold, evaluate the results of both channels together.
