Which fees does Etsy deduct from a sale?
Etsy charges a 6.5% transaction fee on the order total for every sale; added to this are the 0.20 USD listing fee paid to list the product and a payment processing fee that varies by country. The category makes no difference: the transaction fee is the same for handmade jewelry and for vintage decor.
| Deduction | How is it calculated? | Field in the tool |
|---|---|---|
| Transaction fee | 6.5% of the order total, including product price, shipping and gift wrap | Commission rate (fills in automatically) |
| Listing fee | 0.20 USD per listing | Listing fee (lira equivalent) |
| Payment processing fee | Rate and fixed amount in Etsy Payments that vary by country | Service and transaction fee |
| Shipping | Your own shipping agreement | Shipping cost (excl. VAT) |
The rates are taken from Etsy's fee policy (October 3, 2026). Because Etsy changes its fees from time to time, rely on the current figures in your seller panel.
Example: what is left on Etsy from a ceramic mug set?
The calculator finds the net profit in this order: Net profit = sale excluding VAT − transaction fee − payment processing fee − listing fee − shipping − product cost. Let's follow the figures one by one:
The payment processing fee, listing fee and shipping in the example are assumptions; replace them with the amounts in your own panel. As the rate changes, the lira equivalent of the listing fee changes too.
Does the fee change if I charge shipping to the buyer separately?
Yes: because the transaction fee is taken on the order total including shipping, you also pay Etsy 6.5% of the shipping charge you collect from the buyer. The tool calculates the transaction fee from the product price; if you charge shipping to the buyer separately, add shipping charge × 0.065 to the “Service and transaction fee” field.
In international shipments the parcel's volume affects the price noticeably. Before sending the parcel, use the desi calculator to select the international air freight divisor and look at the chargeable weight; see the difference between shipping companies with shipping cost calculation.
Why do the payout and the net profit differ?
The payout is the money that reaches your account after Etsy's deductions; the net profit is what remains after also subtracting your product cost. The tool shows the two figures separately because cash planning looks at the payout and pricing decisions look at the net profit.
- In the payout, deductions are subtracted at the invoice amount; the product cost is not subtracted.
- The net profit is calculated with amounts excluding VAT; income tax or corporate tax is not included.
- The 1% e-commerce withholding is an advance payment deducted from marketplace payouts in Turkey. If you see no such deduction in your Etsy payment statement, select “Don't deduct” in the withholding option.
The tax and VAT treatment of a sale abroad depends on whether the sale counts as an export; clarify this with your accountant.
Etsy or your own e-export site?
One does not replace the other: Etsy gives you a ready-made buyer audience, while your own site builds a channel where you pay no transaction fee and the customer data stays with you. Many sellers take their first orders from Etsy and direct repeat customers to their own site.
The guide to selling on Etsy explains how to start selling on Etsy. When selling abroad on your own site, compare the profit of the same product with profit margin calculation: in the commission field you only need to enter your payment provider's deduction.
