What determines the shipping cost of a parcel?
The shipping cost is determined by the greater of the parcel's desi and its actual weight, and by what that value corresponds to in the carrier's rate table. The calculator first finds the chargeable desi, then ranks each carrier's price at that desi.
Formula in plain text: Desi = Width × Length × Height (cm) ÷ 3000. Chargeable desi = the greater of the desi and the weight in kilograms, with any fraction rounded up to the next whole number. In your own agreement, the price usually has this structure: Shipping cost = 0–1 desi price + (chargeable desi − 1) × price per additional desi.
For details on taking measurements and reducing desi, see the desi calculation guide.
Example: how much does shrinking the parcel save per month?
Consider a business selling home textiles from its own website. Let the shipping agreement be ₺90 for 0–1 desi and ₺9 for each additional desi (excl. VAT).
The rate in the example is an assumption. When you select Own website in the tool and enter your own figures, you see the same comparison with your agreement.
Where do the rates in the tool come from?
The marketplace options use the contracted shipping rates the marketplaces announce to their sellers; in the Own website option, the fields are filled with a sample e-commerce rate and changed according to your agreement. All prices exclude VAT.
| Option | Source and date | Note |

| n11 | n11 Special Shipping Agreement rate, 14 June 2026 | Conditional shipping: up to 5 desi, baskets under 300 TL |
| Amazon | Amazon Easy Shipping rate, 21 March 2025 | The date is old; check the current price in Seller Central |
| Own website | Your shipping agreement | You enter the 0–1 desi and additional desi price |
These tables are provisional data compiled from official lists; the source and date are also shown above the calculator.
How do you evaluate a shipping agreement for your own website?
Evaluate a shipping agreement not just by the 1 desi price, but by the price in the desi range you ship most. A carrier that is cheap at small desi can be expensive for large parcels; the "How does the price rise as desi grows?" chart in the tool shows this for the three best-value carriers.
- Work out the average desi of the last few months and compare quotes at that desi.
- Before setting a free shipping threshold, know the average shipping cost per order; see its effect on profit with the profit margin calculator.
- Remember that return shipments are charged at the same rate.
- If you will work with several carriers, decide in advance which carrier goes to which region or product; in Faprika you do this with Regional Shipping Management rules.
The points to check when getting quotes and in the contract are explained step by step in the e-commerce shipping agreement guide.
