What Is Merchant?

A term used especially in banking and finance. It refers to businesses that accept credit cards and report the sales made with those cards to banks. Merchants make a special agreement with banks, which allows them to offer customers the option of paying by credit card. These businesses receive the amount of card sales directly from the bank in return for a certain commission.
