What Is XLS?

A file format used by Microsoft Excel. This format is used to organize and analyze data, such as tables, charts, mathematical functions and formulas. It is a tool preferred in many areas of business, from financial reporting to data analysis. Files in the XLS format are generally used by Excel 2003 and earlier versions, while the XLSX format is used for newer versions.
