What Is Reverse DNS?

Reverse DNS (rDNS) refers to querying the domain name associated with an IP address. In a normal DNS lookup, a domain name is given and its IP address is requested. In reverse DNS, an IP address is given and the query asks which domain name that IP address is associated with. It is used in network security and identification processes, just as it is used by email servers for spam checks.
