Google truncates the title by pixel width; the character count is only an approximate indicator. Google may sometimes replace the description with another text from the page.

Where is my title truncated in search results?

Google truncates the title by pixel width, not by character count; the tool uses a limit of 580 pixels on desktop and 520 on mobile. A title that exceeds the limit ends with an ellipsis. Of two titles with the same number of characters, the one with more wide letters such as “m”, “w” or “Ş” is truncated earlier; so “60 characters” is only a rough measure.

For the description, about 920 pixels are shown on desktop and a shorter area on mobile. The tool measures both texts as you type and changes the bar's color the moment you exceed the limit.

How do you build a product page title?

A product title starts with the word the customer searches for, continues with information that distinguishes the product, and ends with the store name. Customers search for the product type and feature, not a “product code”: color, material, size, model. Distinguishing information also prevents dozens of products in the same category from carrying the same title.

ExampleWeak: “LN-3042 | Store Name”. Strong: “Linea Three-Seater Sofa, Linen Fabric, 220 cm | Store Name”. The second title answers searches for “linen sofa” and “three-seater sofa” and also shows the size on the results page.

On a category page, by contrast, the product group is described, not a single product: something like “Linen Sofa Models and Prices | Store Name”. For how to structure category pages, see the category page SEO guide.

What does a good meta description say?

A good description answers the searcher's question in the first sentence, then gives a reason to click. A meta description does not directly affect ranking but it affects click-through rate; of two results in the same position, the clearer one gets clicked.

    • Give concrete information: fabric, size, number of colors, delivery method — details that are actually stated on the page.
    • Use the target keyword once: Google shows words that match the search in bold in the description.
    • Don't promise what the page does not offer: a discount or fast-delivery promise that the page doesn't state sends the visitor straight back.
    • Write a separate description for each page: duplicate descriptions can lead Google to show a text it picks itself from your page.

For the definition of the term, you can read the meta description entry in the glossary.

Do I need to write a title for hundreds of products one by one?

No; most e-commerce platforms offer a template that generates titles and descriptions from fields such as product name and price, and you only write manually for important products. In the Faprika panel these settings are under Configuration > Settings > General Settings > SEO: the default page title, title template, separator and the option to generate product meta descriptions automatically are there.

At the product level, the tags {name} (product name), {sku} (stock code), {price} (price) and {oldprice} (price without discount) can be used in the “SEO Information” field under Catalog > Product Management. After setting up the template, try the resulting titles of a few products in this tool; with long product names you can see whether the template exceeds the limit. For a step-by-step guide, see the SEO settings tutorial.

Does the product card shared on social media use this title too?

It may not: share cards are read from separate meta tags — Open Graph (og:title, og:description, og:image) and ones for X. If these tags are empty, the platform takes the page title or a random text, and the logo may appear instead of the product image.

In Faprika's SEO settings, Facebook Open Graph and Twitter meta tags are enabled separately; when enabled, the product page's title, description and image are carried over to the share card. The title you write for search results and the share card title can be the same, but the card has no 580-pixel limit; the image draws more attention. Before sharing a product on WhatsApp, send the link to yourself to see how the card looks; to create the link that starts the chat, you can use the WhatsApp link generator.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I fit a very long product name into the title?

Remove the model code and repeated words from the title, keeping the product type and its most distinctive feature. If needed, shorten the store name or drop it from the end of the title.

Should I put the price in the title?

If the price changes often, don't; the search result may show an old price. If you do include it, keep it current with a template that generates the title automatically from the price field.

Why does Google show a different title for my page?

If the title is too long, a pile of keywords or inconsistent with the page content, Google may show other text from the page, such as the H1, as the title.

When will the title I changed appear?

It becomes visible when Google recrawls the page; this can take from a few days to several weeks. You can request a recrawl for the page in Search Console.

Should I fill in the meta keywords field?

Google does not use this tag for ranking. It is more efficient to focus on the title, the description and the page content.
