What Is SSL (Secure Socket Layer)?
A security protocol that provides a secure connection by encrypting data transfer between websites and users. SSL prevents information that users send to a website (for example credit card numbers and passwords) from being intercepted by third parties. When you visit a website with an SSL certificate, you can see a padlock icon in your browser's address bar, and the website's address starts with "https://".
